Volunteer

Caring volunteers are the backbone of the Flemington Area Food Pantry. Their dedication, teamwork, and commitment enable us to provide high-quality service to our neighbors in need. Our volunteers come from all walks of life, but they share a common purpose: to support their community with compassion, maintain the dignity of those they serve, and show up for their fellow volunteers and the Pantry when needed.

Since our founding in 1982, the open and non-judgmental approach of our volunteers has helped us maintain a high standard of service. While we recognize that hunger has many complex causes, we focus on ensuring that every neighbor is treated with respect and dignity.

Ways Volunteers Make a Difference

Volunteers play a vital role in our daily operations, helping with:

  • Serving our neighbors during Pantry shifts

  • Picking up food and personal care items from local supermarkets, collection boxes, and other donors

  • Sorting donated items and shelving inventory

  • Delivering food to neighbors unable to visit the Pantry due to illness or lack of transportation

  • Assisting with clerical and office tasks

  • Supporting fundraising activities and special events like The Empty Bowl

  • Organizing supplies for key programs, including Birthday Bags, Senior Pop-Up Pantry, ComMITT Kit Meal Kit, and more!

Why Our Volunteers Love the Pantry

Our volunteers are a generous, caring group of people. When asked what they love about volunteering, they said:

“It has been such an honor to work alongside dedicated volunteers to lend a helping hand to families in ourcommunity. Being a direct link in providing food to those in need has been incredibly rewarding.”–Sue

“I started volunteering at the Pantry shortly after I retired. At first, it was just something to do, but it quickly became a gathering of friends doing something worthwhile. The camaraderie has lasted over the years, with new people joining and quickly becoming part of the team.”–Jim

“I volunteer my time and money at the Pantry because it gives me the opportunity to directly serve my community—no middleman! And I get to spend time with the truly wonderful people who make the Pantry work.”–MaryLynn

“It’s addictive to volunteer at the Pantry—helping clients, stocking shelves, and sharing laughs with friends, old and new.”–Mike

“The Pantry gives me the chance to pay it forward to people in need, as the good Lord has given me so much to be thankful for.”–Gary

“Seeing how much our neighbors appreciate the resources and support makes me grateful to be part of this giving community.”–Lori
